Bobby Venuti has a pregnant wife, and a mountain of gambling debts. Now, despite Bobby's best efforts to get out of the city and raise a family far away from the temptations that nearly consumed him, the troubled debtor is about to find just how far some people are willing to go to collect on an outstanding debt.

Liverpool 1 focused on Detective Constable Isobel De Pauli (Samantha Womack), a successful Metropolitan Police detective. Her partner's career move to Liverpool in turn sees De Pauli transferred there. Upon arrival she is partnered with introverted DC Mark Callaghan (Mark Womack), a no-nonsense officer brought up on the streets of the city he now polices; the opening sequence of the first episode culminates in Callaghan throwing a suspect from an apartment window. The earlier episodes centre around the dual themes of the personality clash between De Pauli and Callaghan, coupled with the ongoing saga of the squad's pursuit of local gangster John Sullivan (played by Paul Usher). Callaghan's relationship with Sullivan - who is his cousin - and the interconnectedness of the city, are themes throughout the series.

Inspired by The Manchester Passion, Liverpool Nativity employs the city's great musical heritage as the soundtrack to a contemporary music drama set in a fictitious state, a tale as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. The live event tells the intimate personal story of a pregnant young girl set against a backdrop of political tension and unrest and stars a host of well- known Liverpool actors and personalities.
